So I realize it's been forever since I have posted, but the whole pregnancy thing wasn't so easy on my body. I really didn't feel terrible until the last couple of weeks, but having "morning sickness" all 9 months was not the most fun thing I have ever done! My poor students got used to their teacher running from the classroom to "go take care of the baby" (that's what they called it to make themselves feel better!)
My original due date was March 31. Even my doctor agreed I would not make it that long, so we scheduled an induction date of March 21. I had some blood pressure issues throughout the pregnancy. Nothing too scary, but it was still cause for a little bit of concern. I had a scheduled appointment with Dr. Gee on March 14, and my mom went with me because I was not feeling well. I left work a little early (shhh, don't tell) and headed to pick up mom and then on to Lexington. My weight had stayed the same (gained a total of 27 pounds), but my BP was higher than what they wanted. They had me lie on my side for 15 minutes then took it again. It was still too high, so we did an ultrasound to make sure my fluids were still good. They were, but Dr. Gee was still uncomfy with my results. So she sent us over to L&D at the hospital for some monitoring. I was SO scared! That was WAY too early for me to be having my little girl, and I just wasn't ready for a hospital stay yet. After 2 hours of monitoring, they decided baby was okay and sent me home with instructions to do a urine test over 24 hours. (gross, I know). I had to take the samples back to the hospital at 5:30 on Tuesday, March 15th. She also told me I wasn't allowed to go back to work which REALLY upset me...but it turned out to be a good thing!
Mom went with me again on Tuesday because I still wasn't feeling right. I couldn't pin-point exactly what was wrong, but I just didn't feel myself. And for me to say that takes a lot because I HATE admiting that something is wrong. My mom called the Doctors office, and thankfully Dr. Gee was on call. She ordered me back upstairs to have monitoring and lab work done again. WHen I got upstairs, my BP was 100/160...SO not good. The nurses kind of freaked out a little bit and then told me to stay calm (they totally shouldn't have freaked in front of me...oh well!)
Dr. Gee came in to see me and told me that all of my lab work so far was normal, they were waiting on ONE more test, but I would probably be going home that night. She said she wanted to see me back Thursday March 17 to monitor my BP again. About 20 minutes later, she came walking back in the room and said "Well, Lauren, we have a change of plans. We are keeping you and inducing you tonight. Your platlet count is just too low and you're ready to have this baby." To which my response was "Um, what?"....
So they walk me down to my birth room, I call Brandon, he was in bed almost asleep (it was 10:00 by this point) and we make quick arrangements. The plan was to pump me with a bag of fluid first, give me sleeping pills and start the pitocin at midnight. So that's what we did! Little girl gave a bit of a scare with her heartrate being too high for about 20 minutes, but it came back down again and she behaved until the next day.
That's it for now, will post the rest tomorrow! :)
